Trivia
- Most of the scenes shot at California Speedway were
during the pace laps of the Target House 300, a NASCAR
Busch Series race; and the Pop Secret 500, an NASCAR
Nextel Cup race.
- Maggie pays Crazy Dave $75 dollars for Herbie. This is
the original price Jim Douglas (played by Dean Jones)
offered to pay for "cheap, honest
transportation" in The Love Bug (1968).
- After the graduation, Charisma mentions she and Maggie
going to Riverside; this was where Herbie and Jim Douglas
first beat Peter Thorndyke in The Love Bug (1968).
- Herbie The Love Bug was a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle deluxe
ragtop sedan painted in Volkswagen L87 pearl white. Under
normal circumstances, the interior would be a matching
white. However, Herbie's interior was painted a special
non-reflective grey color so the camera and studio lights
would not reflect.
- The beginning of the movie is a montage of scenes from
previous Herbie movies; The Love Bug (1968) has the most
scenes taken from it, followed by Herbie Goes to Monte
Carlo (1977), Herbie Rides Again (1974), and Herbie Goes
Bananas (1980).
- Director Angela Robinson said in the commentary that she
purposely left hidden crew equipment and cheap camera
tricks in the film to give Herbie fans something to look
for that was fun, and also just to simply aggravate her
editor, who practically begged her to fix the problems
before the film was released.
- Four Herbies were made for the rail-riding stunt in the
first race. One was made to jump up the rail and two were
made to ride on the rail.
- Some deleted and alternate footage appears in the movie's
trailer:
- A shot of Charisma (Jill Ritchie) in the kitchen
saying "Whoa."
- The shot of the Mexican-looking guy in the crowd
lowering his glasses is flipped, though the text
on the signs in the background is not reversed.
So either the shot in the trailer or the one in
the film was digitally corrected so that the text
would not be backwards.
- A shot of Herbie making a "crazy face"
at Trip Murphy ('Matt Dillon (I)' ) shows him
lying on the ground facing Herbie (his knee is in
the shot). In the movie his back is to Herbie.
Ray Peyton Sr. (Michael Keaton) and Maggie
(Lindsay Lohan) by the trophy/plaque wall where
she says to him "I didn't know that you took
out another mortgage on the house."
A shot of Maggie falling back onto her bed.
- The movie playing in the drive-in is Scary Movie 2
(2001).
